Knight Rider
Man — I hope NBC seriously revises this show if they do plan on turning the pilot movie into an actual serial. The movie was full of overused CG; I mean when you HAVE a real car ( Several in fact ), why make shots of a highway with an absurdly CG looking version of it racing down it. I suppose it may be because you can’t film a car going as fast as KITT was supposedly going, but why not go with the old standby of speeding up some regular speed film etc? Wouldn’t it be cheaper to rent the chopper, go out on the highway and film it than it would be to make some half-assed CG .. or maybe that was it .. cheaper because it was half-assed. The CG basically failed in any sequence where it wasn’t the super-duper nanotech armour of the car deflecting bullets, and even then that was pretty weak too - overall the stuff was just downright distracting and totally broke the illusion of the show; one of the dangers tools that are poorly implemented.
And here’s a tip — back in the 80s people were a bit more forgiving of plot holes, but a current show should strive a bit more to make some sense; not to mention have something actually interesting go on. I won’t go into it too much, but some things that happened just drove me mental — one plot point in particular has the heroine escaping the ‘bad dudes’ and they magically materialize at her destination too, far too quickly even if they tracked her as was insinuated in the show.
And I’m sorry .. the Mustang just isn’t as sexy .. KITT didn’t need fancy CG to deflect bullets and even the little LCD screen that has replaced the old Video display and light-up voice box looks a little too IPhone to be in a badass supercar. I suppose a lot of these are small details that will be rectified should a real show be made, but its still the wrong car to me.. old habits die hard; it was kind of sad to see parts of KITT 2000 laying about at the beginning of the whole ordeal..
Anyhow — Battlestar Galactica remake this is not..
